An institute to explore the mineral resources of the Jewish autonomous region of Biro-Bidjan with its center in the capital of the region and branches in various parts of the area has been formed by the Regional Executive Committee.

Calculations to date set iron-ore deposits of Biro-Bidjan at fifty billion tons. There are also vast deposits of granite, asbestos, magnesium, and other minerals. A layer of coal seven meters in depth was discovered only 65 kilometers from Biro-Bidjan, capital of the region.
