The secret State police at Frankfurt yesterday issued an order prohibiting the use of the Hebrew tongue in public gatherings.
Even single words or phrases may not be spoken in the ancient language of the Israelites, according to the order. The prohibition holds good even if such words or phrases are immediately translated into German after they have been uttered.
All speeches at public functions, the ruling decrees, must be made in German.
An exception is noted in the case of students studying Hebrew with the intention of going to Palestine.
