3,000 Lose Amnesty over Vienna Nazi Demonstration

As a result of yesterday’s Nazi demonstration on the occasion of arrival of the Olympic torch en route to Berlin, the Government today suspended administrative amnesty for political prisoners, postponing the release of 3,000 jailed Nazis.

The demonstrators smashed windows of a cafe in the Jewish quarter as they marched through Leopoldstadt shouting “Perish the Jew:”, “One People, One Reich,” and singing the Nazi Horst Wessel anthem, Numerous arrests were made. The demonstration was staged by the Hackenkreuzler organization.
