The Times reports from Jerusalem today that announcement of the Royal Commission “leaves the Jews apprehensive and the Arabs depressed.”
According to the correspondent, the Jews “fear additional sacrifices will be asked of them, beginning with stoppage of immigration.”
Arab leaders, he writes, are not venturing official opinions before tomorrow’s meeting of the Arab Supreme Committee, called to discuss the commission’s terms of reference.
The correspondent voices the belief that it is unlikely the strike will be ended by the mere announcement of the commission, without suspension of immigration.
