Martial law loomed for the Holy Land today as the British War Office cancelled military maneuvers at Sussex in order to be in a position to rush more troops into the strife-torn area at short notice.

It was learned that the decision to send additional reinforcements into Palestine to quell the 20-week-old disorders was the direct result of yesterday’s discussion of the Palestine situation by the British Cabinet.

Well-informed circles believe that martial law is now inevitable.

The Evening Standard reported this afternoon that Sir John Simon, Home Secretary, and William Ormsby-Gore, Colonial Secretary, were in conference at Downing St. Over new dispatches that had been received from High Commissioner Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope.

David Ben-Gurion, chairman of the Palestine executive of the Jewish Agency for Palestine, was received by the Colonial Secretary prior to leaving for Palestine.
