Introduction of ration cards for certain foodstuffs, oil and fuel is expected to follow the annual Nazi party congress at Nuremberg, it was learned here today.
The cards, which may not be issued to Jews, have already been printed and sent out for distribution.
It is expected that the rations system, necessitated by the feared shortage of raw materials and certain foods, will become effective on November 1 unless a decision to the contrary is reached before conclusion of the congress.
A special meeting of the Wholesale Traders Association this week approved introduction of the system. It was learned today, however, that the Association of Retail Grocers and coal dealers are raising objections.
The wholesalers were informed that the system has the approval “in principle” of Reichs Economic Minister Dr. Hjalmar Schacht on the grounds that it would give the Government an “exact idea of its requirements.”
