L’Oeuvre, radical daily, reported today from Zaragoza, Spain, that six Jewish notables of thirteen arrested had been executed by rebel firing squads.
The well-known merchant, Gabrial Alvarez, was among those executed, according to L’Oeuvre’s correspondent, who asserted Alvarez was tortured in the presence of his wife before facing the rebel rifles. A swastika is alleged to have been carved on his face with a knife. The merchant’s wife was said to have become insane as a result of her experiences.
