The Uruguayan Parliament adopted today a Government bill prohibiting all publications and radio broadcasts in languages not taught in the public schools.
Under the law periodicals in that category must be published in Spanish translation or not at all. Intended broadcasts in the forbidden tongues must be rendered into Spanish before being permitted on the air.
Jews are chiefly hit by the law, since Yiddish is virtually the only tongue not taught in the public schools.
