Two hundred and fourteen Jews were arrested today and three Jewish leaders flogged publicly before a huge crow for refusing to open their stores on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath.

The Italian governor of Tripoli recently issued an order prohibiting the closing of Jewish shops on Saturday in the new part of the city. The order provides a fine for first offense, imprisonment for the second and withdrawal of the trading license for the third.
