The United States absorbed 166,000 Polish Jews in the last fifteen year, the Jewish Emigration Aid Society announced at a press conference. In the last five years, however, only wives and children of the earlier immigrants were given American visas, totaling approximately 6,000.
The society said 95,000 Polish Jews went to Palestine in the 15-year period, 66,000 to South America and 35,000 to other countries.
In the last five years, the society declared South America absorbed only 16,000 Polish Jews while Palestine admitted 53,000, of whom 25,000 entered in 1935, Palestine’s record immigration year.
The society announced that in view of the growing need, it would convoke a conference in February of leaders of Jewry in Poland to stimulate emigration.
