The famous 17th century synagogue near the River Meuse will be demolished in 1957, it was disclosed today by the Ashkenazie Jewish Community, because many Jews have moved and are continuing to move from the neighborhood.

The synagogue, the only one of its kind in all Holland, has a clock in its tower that has been functioning for more than 200 years. It has been decided to build a new synagogue on the western outskirts of the city.
