Austrian Jewish circles were agitated today by rumors of an impending shuffle in the Government to include Nazi elements.
The Cabinet will be reorganized, it was reported, as a result of pressure by Franz von Papen, German minister here, who was said to be demanding full amnesty for imprisoned Nazis and legalization of Nazi organizations in Austria as the price for conclusion of an Austro-German trade agreement.
Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg, addressing a conference of Fatherland Front leaders, insisted that his Government would not permit any political activities outside the Fatherland Front. However, Interior Minister Glaise-Horstenau attended an inaugural meeting of the “Ostmaerkische Volksvereingung,” whose outspokenly Nazi program includes repudiation of Haosburg restoration and promotion of “Aryan” ideology.
