The Jewish War Veterans of the United States today asked Governor Lehman and Captain Joseph D. Curran, in charge of Battery D. 244th Artillery of the New York National Guard, for an investigation into an advertisement published in a local Nazi paper asking for German recruits.

The ad appeared in the Deutscher Weckruf and Beobachter, organ of the Amerika-Deutschen Volksbund and the Deutschen Konsum Verband. It asked for “young German men” who are citizens or have first papers to join the artillery battery.

Captain Curran said the publication of the ad in the Nazi paper was a mistake, but disclaimed knowledge of the paper’s affiliations.
