Supreme Court Justice Brandeis and Cardozo, together with Justice Stone, were described as “liberal judges this country so sadly needs” by Attorney-General Homer S. Cummings, testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday.

“We don’t want a subservient judiciary, ” he said. “We want one with types of mind that will permit the country to move. I repeat what I said before, that I would be content to abide by the law as it is interpreted by Justices Brandeis, Cardozo and Stone.”
