$50,000 Assigned to Beisan Colonization

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

The sum of $50,000 has been assigned by the Palestine Foundation Fund for colonization of Jews in the dangerous Beisan area, it was announced here today.

To date, the Jewish National Fund, land purchasing agency for the Jewish people, has obtained title to 28,000 dunams (about 5,600 acres) of land in the Beisan district. On this area, three new settlements, Tel Amal, Hasadeh and Beth Joseph, have already been established. A total of 170 chalutzim (pioneers) are settled in the three colonies, with plans calling for eventual settlement of 660.

Well-borings will start shortly and an attempt will be made to supply the settlements with water from Lake Tiberias, which lies a few miles to the northeast.

Four additional colonies are being planned for other parts of the Beisan area, it was announced.
