It was revealed by the Italian Embassy today that many Polish Jews, following Poland’s recognition of Abyssinia, have applied for permits to settle in the recently annexed Italian territory.
The Embassy announced that no instructions have been received from Rome to issue immigration permits. As a result, it was stated, no such permits will be issued at the present time, although preference will be given citizens of countries recognizing Abyssinia’s annexation.
Some 60,000 Falashas, Ethiopian Jews, are said to be living in the land conquered by Italy. Recently Jewish leaders were sent from Rome to organize Jewish communities in the territory.
