“Judaism is more than a charity organization or self-defense society; it is a virile, living and positive force in our lives,” Isaac Joffc, of Lawrence, L.I., declared yesterday in a sermon at the second northeast regional convention of the National Federation of Temple Brotherhoods.

“The Jew rushing to the fold fearing anti-Semitism, or even to assist his stricken brethren, isn’t well founded and such Judaism will not last,” Mr. s said. He urged layman to become practicing congregations instead of listening audiences.

In line with the trend of Reform Judaism toward ritual he declared that Chanukah and Purim resume their importance on the synagogue calendar, the chazan again occupies a place. The convention is being held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel with more than 300 delegates attending.
