The Manchester Guardian said today that the Palestine Royal Commission’s report would not be completed before the last days of June, if then, despite a declaration by Colonial Secretary William Ormsby-Gore that the statement would be ready for presentation the third week in June.
The delay is not necessarily due to the mixed reception given to the scheme for partitioning Palestine, attributed by reports to the commission, but may have been due to other causes, the Guardian said.
The best that now seems possible, according to the liberal daily, is that the report and the Government’s statements of its conclusions will be available by the middle of July.
If there is danger of Parliament’s adjournment shortly, it may demand that the Government not withhold the report pending formulation of conclusions, but that the report be published immediately upon its completion to insure to Parliament an opportunity for debate on it before adjournment.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned authoritatively that Mr. Ormsby-Gore’s statement in Commons on May 24 still holds good, but that the program is not watertight and may be scrapped if necessary.
