Intensification of Jewish suffering and hardship throughout a great part of Central and Eastern Europe is described in the report for 1936 of the Joint Distribution Committee, made public today.
The J.D.C spent $562,885 for aid to Jews in Germany in 1936, the report said, and together with its affiliated American Joint Reconstruction Foundation granted $1,622,250 in new appropriations and revolving credits for Jews in Central Europe. The Jewish population of Germany decreased to 380,000.
The J.D.C. also announced that Alexander Kahn, one of its vice-presidents and chairman of its committee on Poland, is sailing on the Normandic Wednesday to survey the committee’s work in Europe. Joseph C. Hyman, executive director, will sail on the Aquitania tomorrow for a short stay in Europe, it was also announced.
