WHILE THE ARAB SUPREME COMMITTEE IN JERUSALEM HAS APPEALED TO PALESTINE ARABS TO REFRAIN FROM VIOLENCE, ITS REPRESENTATIVES IN DAMASCUS HAVE BEEN BUYING ARMS TO BE SMUGGLED INTO PALESTINE AND ORGANIZING MERCENARIES TO CROSS THE BORDER WHEN REBELLION BREAKS OUT, ACCORDING TO A DISPATCH FROM JOSEPH M. LEVY TO THE NEW YORK TIMES FROM JERUSALEM TODAY.

PREMIER JAMIL BEY MARDAM OF SYRIA ADMITTED, THE TIMES SAID, THAT HE WAS AWARE OF THE ARMS SMUGGLING, BUT DECLARED IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP IT.

THE DISPATCH ALSO REPORTED THAT “AN IMPORTANT MEDITERRANEAN POWER” WHICh has BEEN SEEKING ARAB FRIENDSHIP HAS TRANSFERRED ITS ACTIVITIES WITH REGARD TO PALESTINE FROM JERUSALEM TO DAMASCUS AND IS SPENDING LARGE AMOUNTS IN THE SYRIAN CITY.
