German Jews in Palestine Put at 40,000

THE NUMBER OF JEWS FROM GERMANY IN PALESTINE TOTALLED AN ESTIMATED 40,000 AT THE END OF MAY, 1937, ACCORDING TO A REPORT PREPARED BY THE CENTRAL BUREAU FOR THE SETTLEMENT OF GERMAN JEWS.

THE IMMIGRANTS INCLUDED 11,922 IN THE CAPITALIST CATEGORY (OWNING A MINIMUM OF $5,000), 12,777 LABOR IMMIGRANTS, AND THE REST WERE RELATIVES OF PALESTINE INHABITANTS, STUDENTS, ETC.

THE PERCENTAGE OF GERMAN IMMIGRATION IN THE TOTAL INFLUX WAS 29 PER CENT IN 1936 AS COMPARED WITH 13 PER CENT IN 1935. DURING THE PERIOD FROM MARCH, 1935, THE JEWISH AGENCY ALLOCATED 10,457, OR 26 PER CENT OF THE 39,250 IMMIGRATION CERTIFICATES GRANTED IT BY THE PALESTINE GOVERNMENT, FOR GERMAN JEWS, INCLUDING 2,541 FOR REFUGEES.
