JEWISH OPINION ON PARTITION HAS CHANGED AND IT IS NOW REALIZED THAT PARTITION WITH ALL ITS DRAWBACKS MAY BE FACED WITH EQUANIMITY, CAPT. ROBERT SOLOMON DECLARED TODAY IN HIS PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS TO THE FOURTEENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE JEWISH NATIONAL FUND.

IF THE JEWS SET THEMSELVES THE TASK OF CONSOLIDATING THE LIMITED JEWISH STATE ENVISAGED BY THE ROYAL COMMISSION REPORT, IT WOULD OCCUPY THE LIVES OF THIS GENERATION, CAPT. SOLOMON SAID. “TIMES IN EUROPE ARE SUCH THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR JEWS TO TAKE UP THE ATTITUDE THAT UNLESS THE WHOLE OF PALESTINE FELL TO THEIR LOT THEY WOULD DO NOTHING.”

THE CONFERENCE DECIDED IN A RESOLUTION TO RAISE A MINIMUM OF $375,000 IN THE COMING YEAR.

DR. CHAIM WEIZMANN, IN A MESSAGE, PRAISED THE J.N.F.’S DECISION TO PROCEED WITH THE REDEMPTION OF THE GALILEE, WHICH HE HELD SUITABLE FOR CLOSE SETTLEMENT AND INTENSIVE CULTIVATION.

“NEVER IN THE HISTORY OF PALESTINE HAS THERE BEEN A GREATER NEED FOR AGRICULTURAL SETTLEMENT THAN AT THE PRESENT TIME,” DR. WEIZMANN SAID. “IT WILL BE A DUTY OF MINE AND OF MY COLLEAGUES TO PRESENT OUR CASE BEFORE THE NEW COMMISSION (TO BE SENT TO PALESTINE BY THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT). OUR HANDS WILL BE IMMENSELY STRENGTHENED BY THE KNOWLEDGE THAT THE AREA OF LAND IN JEWISH OWNERSHIP IS STEADILY INCREASING. WE MUST SEE OUR LAND RESERVES ADEQUATE TO JUSTIFY OUR DEMANDS.”
