AN ARAB BANDIT WAS KILLED TODAY AND A TRAIN WRECK WAS NARROWLY AVERTED WHEN TWO LAND MINES EXPLODED PREMATURELY IN CONTINUING ARAB DISORDERS.

THE BANDIT WAS SLAIN WHEN A GHAFFIR (WATCHMAN) OPENED FIRE AS HE AND TWO COMPANIONS TRIED TO INVADE AN ARAB HOUSE. THE LAND MINES EXPLODED JUST BEFORE A TRAIN WAS SCHEDULED TO PASS OVER THE LINE BETWEEN DIR-SHEIKH AND BETIR, NEAR JERUSALEM. TRAFFIC WAS HELD UP WHILE NEW TRACKAGE WAS LAID.

THE POLITICAL COMMITTEE OF THE ZIONIST GENERAL COUNCIL CONVENED TODAY. THE SESSION WAS OPENED BY M.M. USSISHKIN, CHAIRMAN, WITH A EULOGY OF THE ASSASSINATED DISTRICT COMMISSIONER, LEWIS YELLAND ANDREWS; AVINOAM YELLIN, SLAIN GOVERNMENT EDUCATION INSPECTOR, AND FELIX M. WARBURG. MOSHE SHERTOK, HEAD OF THE POLITICAL DEPARTMENT OF THE JEWISH AGENCY FOR PALESTINE, REPORTED ON THE GENERAL SITUATION.
