EDUCATION IS THE MOST VITAL NEED OF THE FALASHAS, ETHIOPIAN JEWS, IT WAS STATED TODAY BY ADVOCATED CARLO ALBERTO VITERBO, WHO SPENT EIGHT MONTHS STUDYING CONDITIONS AMONG THEM. REPORTING ON HIS SURVEY IN THE “CONVEGNO EBRAICO,” MILAN JEWISH PUBLICATION, SIGNOR VITERBO SAID A PLAN WAS UNDER CONSIDERATION FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF A SCHOOL AT GONDAR, WHERE FALASHA CHILDREN WOULD BE TAUGHT JEWISH SUBJECTS AND TRAINED IN ARTISANSHIP. HE CALLED ON ITALIAN JEWS FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO ENABLE FALASHAN SCHOOLS IN ADDIS ABABA AND THE PROJECTED SCHOOL IN GONDAR TO FUNCTION NORMALLY.
