Vladimir Jochelson, Anthropologist, Dead at 82

PROF. VLADIMIR JOCHELSON, OF THE CARNEGIE INSTITUTE, NOTED ANTHROPOLOGIST AND ETHNOLOGIST, DIED MONDAY NIGHT AFTER A WEEK’S ILLNESS AT THE AGE OF 82.

HIS INTEREST IN SCIENCE BLOSSOMED WHEN, AFTER FLEEING HIS NATIVE RUSSIA BECAUSE OF HIS REVOLUTIONARY ACTIVITIES, HE WAS SEIZED ON HIS RETURN IN 1885 AND EXILED TO SIBERIA THE LATTER YEARS OF HIS BANISHMENT HE BECAME A MEMBER OF THE SIBERIAKOFF EXPEDITION AND REMAINED IN SIBERIA AFTER HIS TERM WAS ENDED TO CONTINUE HIS STUDIES.
