COLONIAL SECRETARY WILLIAM ORMSBY-GORE REPORTED TO COMMONS TODAY IN REPLY TO A QUESTION THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER 520 PERSONS HAD BEEN DETAINED UNDER EMERGENCY REGULATIONS IN PALESTINE.

OF THESE, 360 WERE CONFINED IN THE ACRE CONCENTRATION CAMP AND THE REMAINDER IN JAILS AND LOCK-UPS THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY. "AS THESE ARE CASES OF PREVENTIVE DETENTION, NO QUESTION OF TRIAL OR CONVICTION ARISES," MR. ORMSBY-GORE SAID.

IT WAS REPORTED FROM BEIRUT THAT HIGH COMMISSIONER SIR ARTHUR GRENFELL WAUCHOPE HAS REQUESTED THE LEBANESE GOVERNMENT TO SEND TROOPS TO THE LEBANESE-PALESTINE FRONTIER TO CHECK SMUGGLING OF ARMS AND MEN.
