There is no tendency among Rumanian Jews to emigrate to Poland, the official Polish Telegraphic Agency reported today from “reliable sources” in reply to warnings in the Polish press that Premier Goga’s policies would cause a mass influx of Jews into Poland.
“Immigration into Poland is regulated by very precise rules aimed at the protection of labor,” the agency said. “On the other hand, the number of Jews — Polish citizens — inhabiting Rumania and enjoying the right to return to Poland at any time is very small.”
Jewish papers urged Rumanian Jews not to “run away” from anti-Semitic measures. Haint points out editorially that there is nowhere for the Rumanian Jews to go, and adds: “The only practical form of self-defense is to remain obstinately in your positions, do not retreat, clench your teeth and bear it.”
Anti-Jewish newspapers, meanwhile, are hailing the Goga decrees, daily featuring reports from Rumania with the comment that “Polish authorities should learn how to solve the Jewish question.”
