Proposed modifications of the recently enacted laws governing the status of aliens in France, giving legal status to political refugees and assuring refugees against unmerited deportation were proposed to Premier Edouard Daladier by a delegation representing the Committee for the Defense of Jewish Rights in Eastern Europe.

M. Daladier assured the delegation, which was composed of Senator Justin Godart, president of the Committee; Henri Guernut, a former Minister, and Prof. Jacques Hadamard, a member of the French Academy, that he would give serious consideration to their proposals and would ask Minister of Interior Sarraut to study them. Copies of the memorandum containing the Committee’s suggestions were also sent to Minister of Justice Reynaud, Minister of Commerce Marchandeau, and Police Prefect Langeron.
