Representatives of central Jewish bodies convened here today to consider Austro-German emigration plans in connection with the July conference at Evian. For the first time since Anschluss, official’ representatives of Austrian Jewry were permitted to leave the country to participate in the meeting.
The Daily Telegraph today published a letter under the signatures of Lord Reading, the Bishop of Chichester and Lord Sempill, appealing for funds for refugees. The letter points out that the funds now at the disposal of the Coordinating Committee are insufficient to cope with “urgent and multifarious” demands. Commenting on the appeal, the Telegraph declares it deserves the support of “all men of good will,” adding that the names of the signatories showed there was “no distinction of creed or party among us for this cause.”
