The Times reports from Canberra today that 4,000 German and Austrian Jews are seeking admission to Australia, thus embarrassing the Government which fears the possible effects of large-scale immigration upon employment. The Government, according to the dispatch, also fears that admittance of a large group is likely to lead to creation of enclaves not easily assimilated into the general community.
