The death of Queen-Mother Marie today at the age of 62 recalled her interest in the Rumanian Jews. in 1930 she appealed to the Rumanian nation to collect funds for the Jewish population of the town of borsch, stricken by a fire, calling them “our unhappy brethren.” in 1934, while visiting in Yugoslavia, she sponsored a concert in Belgrade of a Rumanian Jewish singers’ group.
