Immediate establishment of a pre-medical faculty, to be expanded into a medical faculty, was decided upon today by the Hebrew University Board of Governors, which at the same time addressed an urgent appeal to world Jewry to support the Jerusalem institution “in this fateful moment.” The resolution was adopted at the board’s eleventh annual meeting, as the opening date neared of the new $1,000,000 Hadassah rothschild-University Medical Center in Jerusalem.
It was also decided to create immediately an agricultural college, with Dr. Elazar Volcani, director of the Agricultural Research Station at Rehoboth, as professor of farm management. Others named as professors are Dr. Arthur Ruppin, economic expert of the Zionist Organization, in sociology; Dr. G. Mer, epidemiologist, in malaria research; and Dr. E.L. Sukenik, in archaeology.
New members of the board elected are Edward M.M. Warburg, replacing his father, the late Felix M. Warburg; Mrs. Moses P. Epstein, president of Hadassah, replacing Mrs. Edward Jacobs, member of the Jewish Agency Executive, and, from England, Sir Philip Hartog, educator, and Dr. Redcliffe Salaman, scientist.
