George Rublee, director of the intergovernmental Refugee Bureau, hopes to go to Germany within a few weeks to open negotiations for planned emigration with capital if the central European situation permits, the liaison Committee of the League of Nations High Commission for German Refugees was informed today by Nathan Katz, secretary-general of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Paris.
High Commissioner Sir Neill Malcolm undertook to transmit to Mr. Rublee resolutions adopted yesterday by the Liaison Committee, one of which urged the intergovernmental Refugee Committee to alleviate the “urgent and tragic” plight of refugees by obtaining immediately outlets for refugees without awaiting the forthcoming negotiations with the German Government, pointing out that this would improve the possibilities for later refugees to obtain at least temporary refuge in the countries bordering Germany.
The conference adopted a resolution expressing thanks to Sir Neill for his aid to refugees and satisfaction with his report to the League. Hope was expressed that the new High Commissioner would maintain and organize contact with private refugee-aid organizations.
