The American Legion’s twentieth annual convention had before it today the report of its National Americanism Commission favoring a reduction of at least 90 per cent in immigration quotas and opposing any kind of asylum bill which would make the United States a “dumping ground” for all political, class and racial refugees throughout the world.
“With more than 12,000,000 Americans unemployed there certainly is ample justification for the American Legion’s stand to reduce by at least 90 per cent the present quotas,” said Stephen F. Chadwick, chairman of the commission, in submitting the report. Mr. Chadwick was scheduled to be elected national commander of the Legion.
