Because they married in violation of the new Italian racial laws, an Italian Jew and his Greek Jewish wife were sentenced here today to ten days in prison and a fine of 100 lire (about $5). The case was the first of its kind since the laws went into effect making it mandatory for any Italian desiring to marry a foreigner to secure special permission from the Interior Ministry. The court rejected an explanation that the couple had secured a regular civil license before the law became effective.
