Francois de Tessan, member of the French Chamber of Deputies and former Undersecretary of State in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, arrived on the Normandie today for a visit of six weeks during which he will tour the country in behalf of the American ORT Federation.
In an interview on board ship, M. de Tessan praised the activities of the organization as a “great humanitarian, social and constructive work.” He described enthusiastically a visit he had made shortly before leaving for the United States to an ORT agricultural colony in southern France where, he said, thirty Jewish refugee families were receiving training in new occupations.
M. de Tessan said he planned to visit President Roosevelt, whom he has known many years, during his stay and intimated that he might discuss with him the refugee question. A journalist, author and diplomat, M. de Tessan is a descendant of the Marquis de La Fayett and holds the seat once held by the Marquis in the French Chamber. He has been a member of the French Parliamentary ORT Committee since its organization in 1933.
An official reception will be given M. de Tessan at City Hall tomorrow by Mayor La-Guardia.
