Chile Shuts Gates for Year

The N.Y. Times reported from Santiago today that the Chilean Government has suspended issuance of immigration permits for one year. A decree by the Foreign Affairs Minister, the dispatch said, followed demands from many groups for adoption of strict curbs on immigration because of the increase in political refugees.
