The Daily Telegraph today editorially criticized the Rev. W.R. Inge, former Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral, for his recent article in a Church of England newspaper in which he charged Jews with exerting pressure on press and Parliament against British conciliation with the Reich.
Condemning the “gloomy Dean” for his “indiscriminate reproaches” upon the evidence of a single, unnamed witness, the newspaper demanded that he reveal the journalist and the newspaper cited in a subsequent explanatory statement in the News-Chronicle. (Dr. Inge said he had been informed by a journalist that when his paper adopted a policy possibly productive of Anglo-German peace, Jewish firms threatened to cancel their advertising contracts.)
