Official Lithuanian Paper Hits at Economic Bias on Jews

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

The Government newspaper Lietuvos Aidas today denounced economic discrimination against minorities. In the first of three articles on the subject, the newspaper rejected anti-Jewish resolutions recently adopted by the Verslininki, anti-Semitic merchants association which has been agitating for exclusion of Jews from the nation’s economic life. Development of Lithuanian trade, the article said, was possible without ousting the minorities. Declaring the Government would never consider anti-constitutional demands, the newspaper appealed for wholehearted cooperation of Lithuanians with the minorities.
