A resolution pledging to support the principles on racism propounded by the late Pope Pius Xl and continued by Pope Pius Xll, which condemned it as anti-religious, was adopted yesterday by the annual convention of the Catholic Press Association.
The resolution, drafted by a committee of three Catholic editors, asserted that “there has been introduced into our American life a spirit of ill-will and strife over the question of the matter of racial origins,” and continued “Resolved that the Catholic Press Association reaffirms its belief in, and attests its devotion to and promises its championship of, the principles on racism so eloquently and in so Christ-like a manner pronounced by the late Pope, Pius Xl, and so magnificently upheld in glowing word and effective act by the reigning Pontiff, Pius Xll.” The committee comprised the Rev. Francis X. Talbot, editor of America; Dr. Patrick A. Scarlan, managing editor of the Brooklyn Tablet, and Richard Reid, editor of the Augusta (Ga.) Bulletin.
