Lithuanian Mayor Quits when Council Fails to Back Him on Shechita Ban

Mayor Sliupas of the seaside resort Polangen, who was author of a by-law prohibiting kosher slaughter which afterwards was cancelled by the Government as anti-constitutional, today resigned his post after the municipal council with only one dissenting veto refused to sanction an appeal to the Supreme Court against the Government’s decision.
