During the past six months 99,672 Jews left Austria under the auspices of the Central Office for Jewish Emigration, it was announced today. This figure does not include an estimated 30,000 Jews who emigrated without having recourse to the office and a number of half-Jews and converted Jews. It was estimated that about 150,000 left the country since Reich annexation, if all these groups are included in one figure.
Of the 99,762 who departed during the half year under supervision of the Central Office, 20,677 headed for North America, 6,321 for South America, 2,402 for Central America and 6,194 for Australia.
Nazi authorities were intensifying efforts to prevent residence of Jews and “Aryans” in the same houses. As a result, Vienna during recent weeks has witnessed a veritable internal migration of Jews leaving houses where “Aryans” live for those occupied by their coreligionist.
