A campaign for $1,000,000 to aid the Jewish labor movement in Palestine as well as institutions supported by the Histadruth was launched today by the National Labor Committee for Palestine following a meeting of the national council of the organization attended by delegates from various labor unions and Zionist labor groups Baruch Zuckerman, who recently arrived from Palestine, and Abraham Dickenstein, delegate of the Palestine Labor Federation and director of the Palestine Labor Bank, who are in the United States to help direct the campaign, discussed the plans for the campaign.
Pointing out that in the present emergency, Palestine must make place for war victims and that they must be found occupations and places to reside, a resolution, adopted by the delegates, called upon American Jewry to support the drive and help the Committee meet its quota.
The resolution declared that the present crisis puts the Jew in a more serious position than in the last World War and that not only the Polish Jew, but the Rumanian, Hungarian, Russian and Jugoslavian Jew is affected as well, and if the position of Hitler is strengthened, the Jew in the Western hemisphere would also be affected.
Joseph Schlossberg, secretary of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America, who is national chairman of the Committee, and Isaac Hamlin, national secretary, also spoke.
