A “terrifying” rise in anti-Semitism in the United States is reported by Dr. Henry A. Atkinson, executive secretary of the World Alliance for International Friendship Through the Churches, in an article on Christian-Jewish unity in the current issue of the Protestant Digest. Dr. Atkinson terms “radio priest” Charles E. Coughlin “our most outstanding preacher of anti-Semitism,” charging he is using the Churc “simply for his own protection and a cover for his head in times of threatened danger.”
