Refugees here are receiving hundreds of letters from relatives in all parts of the Reich imploring their intervention with the Italian Foreign Office to secure Italian visas and thereby escape the possibility of being sent to the Lublin Jewish “reservation.” Efforts to comply with the pleas have been fruitless, since the authorities have specific instructions forbidding issuance of even transit visas to Jews holding German, Polish, Rumanian or Hungarian passports.
