Three Jews accused of secreting arms have been executed by the Nazis in the Warsaw suburb of Otwock, it was reported here today. One of the victims was the well-known Jewish writer and ex-prisoner, Urke Nachalnik, author of books on crime.
Word was received here that the Nazis have released S.I. Stupnicki, editor of the former Warsaw Yiddish daily Moment, who had been arrested during the first days of the German occupation.
Nathan Swalbe, Saul Wagman and Samuel Wolkowicz, editors of the former Polish Jewish daily Nasz Przeglad, it was learned, have been interned by the Soviet authorities in Volhynian camps.
At least 500,000 refugees from Nazi Poland are now in Lwow, Soviet-held capital of Western Ukraine, it is learned here. The position of the majority of the Jewish refugees is understood to be precarious and they depend entirely on assistance from public funds. Ten thousand refugees from the German-held area have been transferred to the Don mining basin in Russia.
The 400-acre Baron de Hirsch agricultural school at Slobodka Lesna, in Soviet-held Western Ukraine, has been parcelled out among Ukrainian peasants, it is learned here. The school itself, with 50 acres of land, has been taken over by the Government. It had been operated by the Jewish Colonization Association.
