While the question of a federation of Arab States in the Middle East, including Palestine and Syria, may some time form the subject of conversations between British and French statesmen, the question did not figure in the week-end talks between Colonial Secretary Malcolm MacDonald and Colonial Minister Georges Mandel, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency was authoritatively informed today. It was pointed out here that Syria is under the jurisdiction of the French Foreign Office and not the Colonial Ministry, hence its present or future status could not have been discussed by colonial officials.
Contact between the British and French colonial offices resulting from the conversations with the object of closer cooperation will, according to reliable reports, include the mandated territories, but whether this will lead to any closer collaboration in the near future between the British authorities in Palestine and the French in Syria cannot yet be stated with certainty.
