The Home Office, it was learned today, has decided to permit naturalization of “enemy aliens” who applied for citizenship before the war. The number is estimated at 4,000, of whom many are refugees who have resided in England for five years.
In view of the detailed police and other inquiries necessary before naturalization is granted, it is expected that these cases will not be handled rapidly. Since the war an additional 2,000 have applied for citizenship, but these applications will not be considered before disposition of all the others.
Continued bullying of Jews by Nazi war prisoners in British internment camps was described today by Reynolds’ News, which reported that anti-Nazi refugees have demanded that they be separated from other prisoners, particularly as the Nazis are likely to become a majority in most camps with the progress of the war.
