A new health program to care for refugees who have come to Palestine during the last six years was announced today by Mrs. David de Sola Pool, president of Hadassah, addressing 1,500 women attending a luncheon of the organization’s New York chapter at the Hotel Waldorf-Astoria.
The plan provides for emergency feeding of 15,000 undernourished children, subsidies to the Anti-Tuberculosis League to prevent the spread of pulmonary diseases, subvention to the Tel Aviv municipality to help continue preventive and curative health work, and a system of district medical services including ambulatory treatment, home nursing, free drug distribution and obstetrical aid to rural sections of Palestine.
Mrs. Pool also announced a new “bill of rights” for children in Palestine, based on the Children’s Charter of the Third White House Conference on Child Needs. The “bill of rights” is in the form of a decalogue pledging Hadassah to seek extension of pre-natal care for Arabs and Jews, more playgrounds, vocational guidance and protection against child labor.
In her address, Mrs. Pool made a plea for world unity against the forces of aggression. She praised the Scandinavian nations as symbols of progress and civilization, and commended their treatment of refugees. Other speakers were Dr. Abram Leon Sachar, Mrs. Joseph Hamerman and Mrs. Sol Boneparth.
