Tribute to the Jews of South Africa for the way in which they look after their needy was voiced by J.H. Hofmeyr, Minister of Finance and Education, opening a new Jewish orphanage at Cape Town. “If I have done what I could to resist anti-Semitism it is because I regard it as an ugly, loathsome thing, inimical to the interests of South Africa,” he said.
